What is SEP Doo-Soo-Kai ?
What is SEP
?
SEP Doo-Soo-Kai is an open forum for European researchers who
participate in exchange programmes between Japan and Europe. Its
activities are:
- The SEP Doo-Soo-Kai Newsletter: published quarterly and
distributed for free to STF, STA, JSPS, and AIST fellows, to other
interested researchers, to the Science & Technology councellors of
the EC-member embassies, to people in the Commission of the EC, and to
EC national organisations which are involved in scientific exchange
programmes with Japan. The Newsletter is written by exchange programme
researchers.
Contents: laboratory and living experience, reflection about
research, development and living in Japan, possibilities for
international cooperation, arrivals and departures of researchers,
and dedicated news.
- Scientific meetings : informal, special and general interest
meetings where researchers talk about their research work or
laboratory experience. Sometimes these meetings are combined with a
home-stay programme.
- The compilation of information plans: information accumulated in
the Newsletter issues is compiled in order to help arriving
researchers to get down to productive research and an enjoyable
stay quickly. Information plans for STF and STA fellows are
available on request.
For its activities SEP Doo-Soo-Kai depends on voluntary work, but
since 1991 it receives financial support from the Commission of the
European Communities. This support must be reapproved every year.
A Steering Committee consisting of
- Sandrine Cammas,
- Charles Neville,
- Laurent Thomas <thomas@is.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp>,
- Marco Amiotti <marco@suematsu.pe.titech.ac.jp>
- Francis Pitcho <pitcho@nttgoso.ntt.jp>
is involved in organising some core activities, but further invites
initiatives from SEP Doo-Soo-Kai's members for additional events.
The creation of an electronic mailing list (through which you received
this message) to supplement fax and ordinary mail is another
initiative to manage the communication overhead required for a
fruitful and open interaction and collaboration (for instance towards
newsletter contributions, information plans, organising meetings etc.)
between European researchers in Japan and in Europe. It is managed by
Patrick Viry <viry@kaba.or.jp>.
