Session theme:

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networking has drawn tremendous attention nowadays among both Internet surfers and 
computer networking professionals. P2P networks have been widely deployed to build large scale information
 systems for several reasons, e.g. increased autonomy of nodes, failure resilience and scalability. 
For these reasons P2P is an interesting architectural paradigm for realizing large scale information 
retrieval systems. However, search methods in P2P networks are still mostly limited to simple keyword 
queries and the use of advanced retrieval models is in its infancy.

The session particularly encourages papers that address heterogeneous peer-to-peer networks (e.g., 
a variety of data types and service providers), as well as papers about methods that cope with partial 
and uncertain information. In fact, researcher from different areas, including software engineering,
database systems, distributed systems, networking and information retrieval are mostly welcome. 
An important point for making this session successful will be an intensive exchange among researches from
the relevant disciplines. For that reason we are interested in submissions from both academic and 
industrial on all topics related to information retrieval in peer-to-peer networks. These include, 
but not limited to:

    * Retrieval Models
    * Multimedia retrieval
    * Resource selection
    * Query routing
    * Data fusion
    * Grids
    * Metadata management
    * Heterogeneous services
    * Index structures
    * P2P information retrieval architectures
    * Overlay Networks
    * Security

Beside research papers, position papers which can drive interesting discussions will also be welcome. 
Moreover, doctoral and master students are welcome to submit their on going research results.

Goal of the Session:

This Session aims at bringing together young researchers from Information Retrieval and Database Systems
working on peer-to-peer information systems. Both communities have their own strategies at solving the 
problem of efficient and effective query routing in P2P networks, and a closer collaboration could have 
a large impact on future IRP2P research.

Submissions:

The submissions must conform to the proceedings publication format (IEEE conference style) and should not 
exceed six pages, including all text, references, appendices, and figures. Submissions should be sent 
electronically (preferably in PDF format), by the submission date, to ragab@yl.is.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp

All submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least two reviewers, and accepted papers will be published 
in ICENCO'06 proceedings.
